LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT

The firm has a long and distinguished history of representation of employers in every phase of labor law.  In particular, attorneys of the firm have successfully represented clients in wrongful discharge cases in court and before labor arbitrators, unfair labor practice and election cases before the National Labor Relations Board, and employment discrimination cases in state and federal courts and agencies. The labor and employment attorneys of the firm have represented clients in administrative agencies for a wide array of claims, including claims for unemployment benefits, social security proceedings and wage and hour claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

We also have extensive experience in defending employers in union organization activities, as well as contract negotiations and drafting of collective bargaining agreements. The firm’s labor attorneys have represented all manner of employers in such activities, including long relationships with clients in the recreational vehicle, manufacturing and television industries.

Throughout its history, the firm has been known for its expertise in worker’s compensation practice, and has represented many insurance carriers before the Worker’s Compensation Board and in the Indiana Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.

Our labor and employment attorneys are keenly aware of the need for employers to obtain quick and competent advice on labor issues which arise with increasing frequency on a daily basis. We make it a priority to promptly return calls of clients or to make sure that they can contact another knowledgeable member of the firm to obtain the kind of advice which will often head off potential claims and resolve issues before they become critical. We also work proactively with clients to develop and update employment handbooks and policies covering common labor issues, thereby providing a solid basis for employers to respond to issues in an ever changing legal landscape. At Sanders • Pianowski, LLP, the emphasis is on finding creative solutions to legal problems, and that philosophy extends to labor and employment issues as well. Our reputation lies in our ability to bring parties together to resolve disputes without unnecessary legal intervention. This is achieved through a proactive approach to our clients’ needs by seeking to protect them from potential exposure by thoughtful strategic planning. However, when litigation is unavoidable, our clients appreciate the firm’s reputation for vigorous and tenacious advocacy.

Our labor and employment attorneys have been called upon to conduct seminars and symposia for HR officers and labor attorneys on a frequent basis. We have also published copyrighted materials and guides for employers. A regular part of our practice is to meet with supervisors of our clients to keep them updated on changes in employment law and to provide them with the practical tools to deal with issues as they arise, thereby avoiding potentially costly claims.
